About our school

Established in 1978, Durango Early Learning Center was originally a grade school. However, as the needs of the community changed over the years, so did the role of the school. Currently, DELC offers a year-round toddler and preschool program, serving children ages 2 to 5 years.  With six classrooms (1 toddler and 5 preschool), DELC is licensed for 70 children a day and offers both part-time and full-time availability.

Serving La Plata County for almost 40 years

DELC is a nonsectarian, 501(c)3 nonprofit early years center located on historic 3rd Avenue in downtown Durango.

The building itself is an older structure that was originally a family house. Today, the various rooms have been converted into classrooms, creating an environment that utilizes both inside and outside space to reflect the area’s natural resources. The outside space includes a sensory garden, outdoor learning centers on an interior patio, and vegetable and flower beds that are incorporated into the student’s curriculum.
